SAILING VESSELS - Galleon "Mars" - one of the main 'heroes' of the Corsair series

So it's time for one the "heroes" of the Corsair series, perhaps the most important of them all, as he is the only one that will appear in ALL of the novel installment, one which ties up the whole story and different plotlines.

MARS is a mystery ship, we don't know much about him from history book, that's why I came up with my own "version" of how he could end up in polish hands and what adventures could he have.

All there is his model, which photographs You can see below.

He has 54 guns or two decks, what makes him a standard warship for that time era, but not the biggest amont the beasts of the sea - good looking, good for corsair raids, but not one that would be lined up during a battle between the fleets of main sea powers.

Still, since "Mars" is a stanard-sized ship, to simplify things, most of the enemy vessels he will fight with be of the construction, kinda siblings really, different by it's occupants, flags, and color scheme, and stern decorations, but still, somewhat similar when it comes to their looks :)

As in my story he is captured from the Swedish, it's obvious that some other swedish ships can serve as inspiration for his more complex design, just like dutch galleons would do, since they bear some similarities and many swedish warships were actually built by the dutch.

If You will look at sterns of dutch warships and compare them to that of Mars, resemblance should be easy to spot :)    

Being called "Mars", after a roman god of war, he's got his statue at the bow of the ship and some decorative sculptures carved into it's stern.

Stern also shows two lions holding Gdansk coat of arms - that is two white crosses under a golden crown.

There's is also a sign with the ship's name on the top of the stern.

On top of it's masts are different polish flags, all of them with a leading red and white color scheme:

* there's an official red-white-red flag of the Polish Commonwealth, 

* there's a navy's war flag with an arm holding a sword, 

* and a flag of Gdansk - two white crosses under a golden crown - since the city of Gdansk is the port is this ship's base and Gdansk pays all of it's bills = quips "Mars" with guns, gunpowder, all other necesary equipment, food... and last but not least... provides it's crew with a proper pay...
