So unlike book covers, which are supposed to be a standalone stuff, comic book covers have to portray it's character/characters in many surprising situations, being a series, to keep reader's interested issue after issue after issue...
In this case I prefer all of those covers that have some kind of suspense written all over them :)
Well, I love every good original idea or an extraodrinary point of view, angle, when it comes to comic book covers, and I love all of those "heroes assemble", "heroes crash trough the wall/newspaper", etc type of covers, but my favorite coverse are always those that force a major character or characters to find themself in some kind of serious situation...
That is, like You will see on plenty of those images below, being trapped by the enemy, or being imprisoned, or if there's someone hidden in the shadow just waiting to attack our hero with a knife or an axe, or jump on him from the roof, or spray bullets of over him from his machine gun etc.
So all of those covers that just scream with questions like "how the hell could this happen to Mr A?", "how will he manage to survive this danger?", etc, those covers that basically force everyone interested to look inside ( but an issue ) to find an answer.
One of my favorite series when it comes to covers EVER is Jonah Hex, classic volume, because almost all of his covers show him in situations like those, whether he's about to be executed by a firing squad, or hanged, or is left to die on a desert etc etc.
...and they are usually very well drawn as well :)
Of course there were and might be plenty more of ideas - like where hero resigns/quit his superhero group, or where hero is fighting with another hero for some mysterious reason, or hero fighting with himself/that is with his lookalike, or all those covers forcing us to believe that hero is actually dead, or with characters standing in shock because they see someone they thought to be dead for a long time, or where a good guy teams up with a villain for another mysterious reason etc etc...
Still, a good cover is a good cover, having a hero fight a monster or a giant henchman or a pack of wolves is always exciting.
But basically, something should happen on those covers, something cool.
I don't like all of those nova days "artistic" covers with a meaning that can be resolved only by the artist ;)
So please, take a look trough the Gallery bellow, there are not listed in any kind of order, just they way blogger uploaded them.
Feel free to scroll trough them and pick those You'll find most amusing, or those that You would like to copy with Your own hand, replacing original heroes with different characters :)
It is my dream, as writer, to have some of my characters portrayed in situations like those below, whether it would be in their own comic book series, or whether it would a cover made for a specific chapter in a book :)
